28 Jan Birds of the beach
Yesterday, shrugging off the annoyance of a winter cold that has taken away my voice, I got some fresh air on a drizzly morning walk along the water with a friend and her very handsome boy.
He is so worried when his mom goes in to get hot tea. He’s left outside with me, and I expect him to grin and be gorgeous even though he has big things on his mind.
Our walk was paused by the sight of an eagle sitting on a rock just off the beach. I love that we weren’t the only ones to stop and enjoy. He sat there quite a long time, much of it with crows trying to send him on his way.
If I was a crow I don’t think I’d have the sassiness to swoop and dive bomb something that big, with such big claws and such a sharp beak, and who just might want to sample crow sushi. I think I’d be more likely to sit very still and blend in, like this guy. Copycat crow. Sitting real still. “I am the rock.”
We also saw an otter in the water, but just a glimpse. He wasn’t inclined to pose or be photographed and I didn’t have the voice to ask him.
There’s a painting of a raven I was thinking of doing and when I got home with birds on the mind I had every intention of starting it but on the way to the easel I passed the couch and it reached out and grabbed my sniffle-y me. Isn’t that decadent? An afternoon nap. Weird but wonderful. A lost opportunity to paint but otherwise fabulous!

Posted at 19:39h, 29 JanuaryThanks Dina. It was a good walk.
I think it’s lovely how you split time between a few places. A change is as good as a rest?
Thanks so much for your comment. You write such kind things.
