Rooms like Anthony

Rooms like Anthony

This is a little different for me.  I was reading a book about autism, Love Anthony by Lisa Genova, and was taken by how a character in the story writes from a non-verbal boy’s perspective.  He describes how thoughts he has and actions he takes are organized into rooms in his head, and to change tracks he has to leave one room and go into another one.  That struck a chord and made me think whether my own brain works a little like that, and what it would look like.  It was a funny process trying to paint it because I welled up and struggled through parts and danced back and forth between rooms that felt good and a few that didn’t.  Mostly good though.  And painting the scary rooms took a little bit of the sting out.  Not sure if it’s a new direction or a one off but in the end I enjoyed doing it.
